WALTHAM, MA — The number of people who have tested positive in the city for the new coronavirus is more than 950 as of Monday. Overnight an additional four people died related to the coronavirus, according to Mayor Jeannette McCarthy. Waltham is among the hardest hit when it comes to the number of people who test positive for the coronavirus, according to the weekly accounts from the state. Out of 294 towns and 57 cities in the commonwealth, Waltham came in at number 14 for the number of positive cases on May 6, the last day the state released those numbers. As of Monday, May 11, at least 48 people had died and a total of 955 people had tested positive for the virus that causes the COVID-19 illness, according to city data. By comparison, in neighboring Newton, 663 people have tested positive for the virus and 86 people had died as of Monday. Across the commonwealth as of Sunday, 77,793 people had tested positive out of 388,398 people tested. A total of 4,979 people had died related to the virus as of Sunday, the state reported.
