LONG BEACH, NY— The coronavirus pandemic shutdown is not an easy time to launch a new restaurant but Long Beach natives Kevin Donnelly and Paul Farrell are confident residents are hungry for a new eatery—takeout and delivery-style, for now. Boardwalk Cheesesteaks is opening quietly Thursday night at 655 E. Park Avenue, with a grand opening slated for early June. Donnelly, who founded the former Ribeye Bros in 2012 in Island Park, a popular cheesecake eatery, is teaming up with Paul Farrell, the former owner of Sutton Place in Long Beach. Boardwalk Cheesesteaks, which bills itself as "the best cheesesteaks north of Philly," will be Long Beach's only cheesesteak joint, and the only one for miles, Donnelly told Patch. "It's a universal comfort food," he said. The restaurant was originally slated to open late February before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Donnelly decided to open this week in time for summer in Long Beach. "We know we can have a good product. Hopefully everyone is looking forward to a new good takeout option." Donnelly, a resident of Long Beach for 20 years, says he and his chef are also excited about the wings and brats, a bratwurst sandwich not too commonly found on Long Island menus. The eatery will also offer salads, milkshakes and build-your-own cheesesteak options.
