Description

Why are colleges becoming so selective? Who gets in? Come learn how students stand out and the importance of building a balanced list. This year, colleges saw record numbers of applications and, correspondingly, had record low acceptance rates. Waitlists, test-optional, early decision, and many more factors are playing a role in these trends. UW-Madison went from ~45,000 applicants in 2019 to ~60,000 in 2021; Vanderbilt's admission rate is now 6%; 40% of Macalester admits did not submit an ACT or SAT score. 3000+ students were put on a waitlist at Notre Dame.>50% of Duke's freshmen class was admitted via binding early decisionWe will spend our time together talking through what makes students competitive at these schools beyond grades and test scores. We will address the impact of test-optional policies on admissions as well as how early decision and yield protection affect outcomes. Finally, and most importantly, we will discuss how students can create well-balanced colleges lists and how the ever-increasing costs of college may play a role in your search. Can't make it? Join us on Tuesday, 5/3 at 12:00PM All proceeds from this event will be donated to Galin Scholars. Galin Scholars is a non-profit dedicated to educating the public about college preparation and providing students from low to middle-income families and students from demographics historically underrepresented in college with comprehensive advising, test preparation, and access to extracurricular opportunities.
