Description
This week, the New York State Department of Transportation will be opening drawbridges on the Meadowbrook and Loop parkways for longer, which may cause delays for drivers.
Starting on wednesday, there will be extended bridge openings between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the Meadowbrook State Parkway drawbridge over Sloop Channel and the Loop Parkway drawbridge over Long Creek. The bridges will be open for 10 to 15 minutes, and then closed for 10 to 15 minutes. The bridge will not raise again until the residual traffic has cleared and a steady flow of traffic is observed.
Crews will be testing the electrical and mechanical systems on the two 86-year-old bridges, the DOT said. Testing is expected to be completed in approximately two weeks.
As with most road and bridge projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
