LONG BEACH, NY — Three students in two different schools in Long Beach tested positive for the coronavirus, the district said, but schools will not be closing because of it. According to a letter sent to families by Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Gallagher, two of the students attended Lido Elementary School and the other went to Long Beach Middle School. Gallagher said the three students had a family connection. None of the students had been in school since last Friday, Gallagher said. The district worked with the Nassau County Department of Health on contact tracing, and notified anyone who had close contact with the students that they need to quarantine for 14 days. According to Gallagher, the county did not recommend closing the schools. "As always, the health and safety of our students and staff is of the highest priority," she wrote. Dozens of schools across Long Island have reported coronavirus cases since classes began in September, but not all of those have led to shutdowns.
