WALTHAM, MA — Waltham Schools are sheltering in place Friday after the Waltham Police Department and the Superintendent of sent out a "low risk" shelter in place notice to some schools in North Waltham Friday morning. "There is an active investigation into a crime that took place in North Waltham," police said in a statement. "There is no known threat to the schools in the area, the low risk shelter in place is being done out of an abundance of caution." Waltham police said someone reported a suspicious incident just before 9 a.m. Friday on Judith Lane. When police got there, they saw two men hastily leaving a home. One jumped in a car, the other took off running. Police learned a gun had been taken from the home. Officers checked the area using a K-9 and drone, but weren't able to find anyone. Superintendent Brian Reagan said after police informed his office that they were looking for a man near McArthur Elementary and Northeast, he sent out a notice to principals to keep students inside for those two schools. "After a half an hour, we heard back from the police that they didn't find the suspect, we said, in consultation with the police department, you know what, just out of an abundance of caution we'll keep everyone inside," said Reagan. But other than indoor recess, it's business as usual and schools will be dismissing on time, he told Patch in an interview. Reagan said although schools aren't allowing any visitors right now, school officers are in the lobbies making doubly sure the doors are watched he said. Got a tip?
