DOVER, FL — A school resource deputy is being credited with helping save a high school student's life at Strawberry Crest High School on Monday afternoon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. (The video shared by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is at the bottom of the article.) The student started having seizures at about 1 p.m. inside the school's cafeteria at lunchtime, deputies said. Pedro Colon, a school resource deputy, rendered first aid to the student, which included performing CPR as the student was on the ground convulsing. Officials said after several minutes of Colon offering help, the student was alert and able to sit up. The student was treated at a local hospital, police said. "Deputy Colon's quick call to action was heroic, and had it not been for his efforts, we might be looking at a very different situation today," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This incident goes to show the importance of the CPR training all of our deputies receive. It's a prime example of being ready to serve when called upon. I want to thank Deputy Colon for giving this student a second chance at life." Deputy Colon has been employed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office since 2003. The name of the student will not be released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office or Patch in accordance with Marsy's Law.
