The organization was formed in response to the uprisings of the summer of 2020, with the aim of serving NYC's Black Muslims in their pursuit of self and community advancement. BMN celebrates the beauty and brilliance of Black Muslim culture while striving to create solutions around key challenges facing the Black Muslim population in New York City, including Islamophobia as well as structural racism and discrimination from within the Muslim community and society at large. BMN was founded in the spirit of the great Black Muslim American leaders thathave fought for the uplifting of Black people and Black Muslims in NYC, across the USA, and globally. We work to create elevated, dynamic, and strategic social programming, as well as spearheading and collaborating on service projects to benefit Black Muslims across the city. At BMN, we connect Black Muslims in New York and the surrounding area to Black Muslim charities, Islamic events, local businesses, services, and more in an effort to create connectivity, empowerment, racism-free spaces, to build a strong and unified Black Muslim NYC community, now and in the future.
