Ron Athey brings his four-part Live Performance of Acephalous Monster to Texas for the first time with live soundtrack by Xiu Xiu!
One of the world's most prominent performance artists, Ron Athey's extensive body of work delves deep into themes of ritual, ecstasy and primal defiance. On Friday May 13th, Athey pairs with Xiu Xiu and Grecian performer Xermes to bring a deeply allegorical and transgressive performance of Acephalous Monster to Oblivion Access Festival. It will be his first performance in the state of Texas, and the debut of a collaborative work between Ron Athey and Xiu Xiu.
"The work unfolds in five scenes: A choreography based on sound poet Brion Gysin’s Pistol Poem (1960): a short Bataille lecture on the madness of Nietszche and the horse of Turin; and pantomimed interpretations of the decapitation of Louis XVI; the apotheosis of Dionysus, revealed in the Minotaur; and a cephalophore (decapitated saint) to the words of artist and occultist Genesis P-Orridge’s work, EsoTerrorist."
