Gator Attacks Photographer's GoPro Camera At South FL Preserve: Watch

OCHOPEE, FL — A large gator attacked the GoPro camera of a photographer visiting Big Cypress National Preserve in Ochopee at the end of April. Bobby Wummer, based in Palm Beach Gardens, shared footage of the gator trying to snack on the camera. (Watch the video clip below.) When he put the GoPro on a 12-foot-long extension pole to try to get a close-up of the gator, the reptile lunged for the camera, he said in a Facebook post. This was not done intentionally. I didn't think that he would actually lunge up and bite down on the cam," Wummer wrote. "I was lucky and didn't play tug of war which would have probably been the end of camera! The alligator then realized that the camera was not food, and he released the camera." After the gator left, the photographer was able to retrieve his camera, which only had "minor damage," he added. Watch the clip Wummer shared of the gator chomping down on his GoPro below:
