Staples Girls' Golf Tops Darien

The Staples Girls' Golf Team returned from school vacation and got right back on the road to Darien Tuesday, but there was no travel fatigue for the Wreckers, as they registered a 185-231 victory at Country Club of Darien. Leading the way was match medalist senior Co-Captain Leni Lemcke with a 42, while fellow captain senior Lizzie Kuehndorf and junior Keeva Boyle carded 47's, and freshman Rachel Pontoriero added a 49 for the win. "We put in the work during the previous weeks and played our best, and it resulted in a victory. I enjoyed played with my competitor from Darien," commented Pontoriero, the Wrecker's sole freshman varsity player. Staples' home opener is Wednesday versus St. Joe's. Staples again plays hosts on Thursday, finishing the week against Fairfield Ludlowe. "Three matches in a row during finals is a challenge, and next week are AP exams. Our team has much talent that will pull together and meet the challenge balancing academics and athletics," stated Coach Patty Kondub.
