Another day of 35-MPH winds at Longshore Golf Course did not shake the Staples Girls Golf Teams from defending the home course against Fairfield Ludlowe. The Varsity won its third match in three days posting 183-240, while JV also had a 50-plus stroke win, 225-276. Junior Keeva Boyle and freshman Rachel Pontoriero shared varsity medalist honors with 45's from the white tees and freshman Aviva Ross was jv medalist, carding a 52 from the yellows. "Our team played through some tough conditions today at Longshore, but we were able to have a ton of fun and end with a great result," stated Boyle, who had the lone birdie of the 15 golfers.For varsity, Junior Reilly McGeehan was steady again with a 46, and sophomore Kathleen Coffey and senior co-captain Leni Lemcke both turned in a 47. JV co-captain sophomore Cammie Rubino and freshman Eliza Edwards matched scores with a 56. Junior Margaret Huber played in her first JV match and carded a 61. Varsity is now 5-0 with 11 matches left on its schedule. JV is 3-0 with 9 matches to go. JV hosts New Canaan May 2 and travels to Fairfield May 3, and May 4 Varsity hosts Fairfield Warde. The schedule is light due to AP exams. "The Wreckers are as talented in the classroom as they are on the golf course this season," wrapped up Coach Patty Kondub.
