Building Hope Together Gala Raises Over $650,000 to Support the Saint Rock Haiti Foundation

Quincy, MA–The Building Hope Together Gala, recently held at Granite Links in Quincy, drew close to 500 in attendance and raised over $650,000 to support the life-saving efforts of the Saint Rock Haiti Foundation (SRHF). The foundation runs two health centers in St. Rock, Haiti, where it provides clean water, educational opportunities, and important medical and dental care to individuals and families. This year’s gala marked 20 years the foundation has been in operation, which was a highlight of the evening’s celebrations. Leading up to the fundraising gala, SRHF organizers announced that the Flatley Foundation had pledged to match all funds raised up to $200,000, so several benefactors, including Quirk Auto Dealers, joined forces to support this important initiative. The foundation recently broke ground for a new maternal and child health center that will provide a place for women to give birth safely; the center will have a state-of-the art operating room for obstetrical emergencies. SRHF’s 50 staff members in Haiti, led by Dr. J. Kenes Eloy, work closely with US-based staff members in the Milton office. SRHF honored Brian Concannon, a Marshfield human rights lawyer, and the Boston-based Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti that he co-founded. Upon receiving the Dr. Stephen Bresnahan Award, Concannon shared how he gave up a corporate-law job in Boston to work in Haiti for nearly a decade. “I felt called to put my energy and skills to work full time for people who really needed it. I first went to Haiti as a UN volunteer in 1995. I expected to stay a year or two. I stayed for nine years,” said Concannon.
