Press release from State Sen. Paul Cicarella's Office: May 2, 2022 State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven) applauded the Senate's unanimous passage of S.B. 256: An Act Concerning the Purchase or Receipt of Catalytic Converters by Motor Vehicle Recyclers, Scrap Metal Processors and Junk Dealers. Senator Cicarella sees this measure as a first step in the right direction to make it more challenging for criminals to sell stolen catalytic converters. "This issue has been disturbingly too common across our district. We have also seen that criminals who engage in this activity can turn violent. One month ago, one of these criminals fired a gunshot at their victim in Wallingford when confronted. It is imperative that we act now to stem the tide against these crimes and innocent people being hurt," said Senator Cicarella. "This measure can deter criminals at the sale or disposal part of the crime, as they attempt to exchange the stolen part for cash. However, more action may be necessary. The next step would be measures that will deter criminals from stealing the part altogether. My hope is that we as lawmakers will evaluate this measure when we return next year if it becomes law. We must ensure the safety of Connecticut families," he said. Sen. Paul Cicarella represents Connecticut's 34th Senate District that includes the towns of Durham, East Haven, North Haven and Wallingford. www.senatorcicarella.com This press release was produced by State Sen.
