Press release from TNC: May 2, 2022 Senate Bill 10, which enshrines into law a commitment for Connecticut to transition to a zero-carbon electricity supply by 2040, overcame its last legislative hurdle after passing the state House of Representatives. The bill has already passed in the Senate and has the support of Governor Ned Lamont. In response to the news, Nathan Frohling, The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut's director of external affairs, released the following statement: "Fossil fuels grow more expensive every day. Coal, oil, and gas drive environmental destruction, pollute our air and water, and prop up some of the most repressive governments around the globe. If ever there was a time to break free of the dirty past, that moment is now. We are thrilled that Connecticut's legislators understood the urgency of this moment and passed SB10. "Clean, zero-carbon electricity is the future of our economy. We fought for this legislation because a zero-carbon commitment with the force of law will help shape future governmental action and provide certainty to our business community. "Though this legislation passed with bipartisan support, its success was not guaranteed. We thank Governor Lamont for introducing the bill and commend the leaders of the Energy and Technology Committee in the House – Chairman David Arconti and Ranking Member Charles Ferraro – for supporting and shepherding this bill successfully. "Finally, we thank Speaker Matthew Ritter and Majority Leader Jason Rojas for prioritizing this measure during the short legislative session. "In the fight against climate change, every action helps make our future a little bit better. Today, we are proud to say that Connecticut is doing its part." This press release was produced by TNC.
