Description

Press release from the City of New Orleans: April 28, 2022 NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that effective immediately, the Department of Public Works' contractor, Roubion Roads and Streets, will close the intersection of Clouet and North Rampart streets to vehicular traffic for approximately five days to address an emergency water leak affecting the Bywater Group A reconstruction project. Residents in this area are currently being notified of the closure via a neighborhood canvass. Crews have begun excavating the affected streets to repair the subsurface water lines. Immediately following the completion of repairs, roadway restoration will begin. In the interest of prioritizing public safety, barricades will be placed within a one block radius of the site. West bound traffic will be rerouted around this area through Homer Plessy Street to Dauphine Street and up Louisa Street. The entire project is scheduled for completion by summer 2022, weather permitting. In general, the contractors work from 7 a.m. until sunset on weekdays. Since May 2018, DPW has completed 126 projects with an estimated value of $356 million. Today, 57 roadwork projects are under construction, with an estimated value of more than $632 million.
