STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — There was a bomb threat targeting Stafford Middle School on social media on Monday morning, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said they did not find an explosive device, and the school opened on time. The sheriff's office said it learned of the threat around 7 a.m. on Monday. Police said the threat was communicated over social media, though they did not specify what platform was used. "Deputies and explosive detecting K-9's responded to check the interior and exterior of the school," the sheriff's office said in a report. "No explosive device was located." The sheriff's office said they are working with the school system to identify the person who made the threat and hold them responsible. Students and staff members may notice an increased police presence at the school on Monday. "The safety of students and staff is one of our primary objectives," the sheriff's office said. Last week, the sheriff's office learned of a mass shooting threat targeting the county. At the time, police did not specify what area was mentioned in the threat. However, authorities said they were working with the Stafford County school system to ensure the safety of students and staff members.
