There are many unknowns outside of school halls, which is where many have spent 75% of their lives up to this point. Toyoda Gosei is hosting a career exploration day to provide insight into the different positions within manufacturing (and beyond) that are necessary to run a successful business. Spend time meeting with people who were once in your shoes, and get a first-hand look into career opportunities that may pique your interest while learning what type of culture you can see yourself thriving in. Sometimes knowing what you don’t want to do is just as important as knowing what you do want to do. Toyoda Gosei Fluid Systems in Brighton, Michigan currently has over 70 different positions throughout the facility. Different positions require different skill sets and interests. Most successful businesses have a diversified array of people; a combination of people who are geared more toward collecting and analyzing data, as well as individuals who are creative. People who enjoy developing technology and programming robots, and people who focus on quality of products and processes developed. There is no right or wrong way to enter manufacturing, just different ways. Toyoda Gosei has team members who came in with degrees or certificates, people who jumped right into the workforce and learned while on the job, and people who started working and obtained a degree or other credential while they were working.
