JOLIET, IL — Joliet police have arrested a 15-year-old boy and 18-year-old Marlow Franco following Saturday's gun violence around 8 p.m. in the 200 block of South Eastern Avenue. Nobody was shot during the incident.
Patrol officers heard several rounds of gunfire coming from an area east of their squad cars.
"While officers were en route, they were notified that citizens had reported shots fired in the area of Second Avenue and Akin Avenue," police spokesman Dwayne English notified Patch.
The officers were told that two gunmen, both males, were in the backyard of a house in the 100 block of Akin Avenue.
With the assistance of a Will County Sheriff's Office K9, the area was searched and Franco and the 15-year-old boy were captured, police announced. Joliet police recovered two 9 mm guns and one .22 caliber handgun on the ground where the two teenage boys had been standing, English noted.
The 15-year-old boy was booked into the River Valley Justice Center on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition and having No Firearm Owner's Identification.
Franco was booked into the Will County Jail on identical charges. Will County Jail records listed the 18-year-old as Marlow Franco-Soto. His bail was set at $75,000. The defendant lives in the 300 block of Third Avenue, which is close to where the gunshots were being fired.
