Description
ANTIOCH, IL — A Good Samaritan rushed to the aid of a 73-year-old man who fell into a channel in Fox Lake. The man's friend, a 74-year-old Winthrop Harbor man, also helped by holding the man's head above water while still in the boat until paramedics arrived.
The two elderly men were fishing around 1:35 p.m. Friday when the man fell into the channel near the 38500 block of North Lakeside Place in unincorporated Antioch. The two were fishing in a small boat when their fishing lines got tangled in the weeds.
While trying to unhook the lines from the weeds the 73-year-old man fell into the cold water. He went completely under water for one to two minutes. His friend tried to keep the man's head above water from the boat, and a 48-year-old man, who heard the man calling for help, jumped into the water as well.
Paramedics took the man by ambulance to Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital in critical condition.
