Press release from the City of Long Beach: April 28, 2022 Long Beach, CA – This May, the City of Long Beach will celebrate National Bike Month all month long. Long Beach residents are encouraged to participate in in-person rides and other free, family-friendly community events happening throughout the month. Bike Month is celebrated across the United States and offers an opportunity to showcase the benefits of bicycling and encourages more people to incorporate bicycling into their daily lives. "We are excited to have the chance to celebrate Bike Month in person once again," said Mayor Robert Garcia. "This is a great opportunity to get exercise while exploring different parts of our city." Below are some of the many ways community members can participate in National Bike Month. During the family-friendly rides, led by City staff, the City will provide bicycle safety training and helmet fittings. Family Friendly West Long Beach Community Bike RideLocation: Admiral Kidd Park Date: Sunday, May 15, 2022 Time: Bike training and helmet fitting starting at 12 PM. Bike Ride starting at 2 p.m.Advanced registration is required. Register here. Family Friendly Downtown-Bixby Park Community Bike RideLocation: Bixby Park Date: Sunday, May 22, 2022 Time: Bike training and helmet fitting starting at 12 PM. Bike Ride starting at 2 p.m.Advanced registration is required. Register here. 30-Mile Tour of Long Beach Community Bike Ride Location: Marina Green Date: Sunday, May 29, 2022 Time: Bike Ride starting at 9 a.m.Advanced registration is required. Register here. "This year's National Bike Month allows everyone an opportunity to be active, healthy, and build community in-person. We hope residents will get to explore our new and upgraded bike lanes across the city with their friends and family," said Department of Public Works Director Eric Lopez. Residents are also invited to attend free bike check-ups happening every Saturday in May from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations: May 7, Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave.) May 14, Silverado Park (1545 West 31st St.) May 21, GoActiveLB Hub (223 E.
