DARIEN, IL – Opponents of Hinsdale High School District 86's superintendent contend Central and South high schools are falling behind under her leadership.
However, last week's rankings from U.S. News & World Report did not fit into that narrative.
At Thursday's school board meeting, Prentiss said both Central and South fared well in the much-watched rankings from U.S. News.
Central ranked ninth in Illinois, up one spot from last year. Meanwhile, South ranked 71st, up 11 spots.
Nationwide, Central was 277th out of nearly 18,000 schools. South ranked 1,490th. Prentiss noted South moved up 449 spots at the national level.
Prentiss' opponents have pointed out a number of areas where they say she has failed as superintendent. If Central and South slipped in their rankings, her detractors would likely point that out.
The rankings from U.S. News are often used by parents when deciding where to live.
At a recent meeting, Elmhurst School District 205 officials said they understood the importance of such rankings.
