LINDENHURST, NY — The Lindenhurst School District announced that schools will be closed and students will attend classes remotely for three days before the holiday break next week to help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.
On Monday, Superintendent Daniel Giordano sent a letter to the community announcing that district officials decided that schools will operate fully remote next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
"With the increased number of positive Covid-19 cases reported in Suffolk County, it is not surprising that we have seen an increase in the number of positive cases reported throughout the district among our students and staff," he wrote. "This is despite our best efforts to mitigate the spread by following the required safety protocols."
In addition, Giordano stated the 15-minute Emergency dismissal drill previously scheduled for next Wednesday will now take place in February.
"We are hopeful that such measures will minimize potential exposure that could further jeopardize the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and their families and result in a smaller number of students and staff requiring quarantine due to close contact with those who test positive," he wrote.
