Bicyclist Killed After Being Struck By Box Truck In Copiague

COPIAGUE, NY — A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a truck in Copiague on Saturday night, according to Suffolk police. A 67-year-old East Meadow man was driving a 1998 Chevrolet box truck southbound on Great Neck Road when the truck struck a bicyclist who was crossing Great Neck Road at the intersection of Railroad Avenue at 11:45 p.m., police said. The bicyclist, 43-year-old Jose Torres-Fuentes, of Copiague, was pinned under the carriage of the box truck and had to be extricated by members of the Copiague Fire Department, police said. Photo courtesy of Bryan Lopez Torres-Fuentes was pronounced dead at the scene by physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the truck was not injured.
