BRADENTON, FL — While building a Bradenton home for a single mother with two children, $9,000 worth of power tools and other supplies were stolen from Manatee County Habitat for Humanity's trailer, the organization shared on its Facebook page. After finishing work at the 6th Street Court East home for the day on Dec. 7, the crew locked up their tools in a trailer on site. Someone broke into their trailer sometime between 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 7 a.m. on Dec. 8, Habitat for Humanity said. In addition to stealing the power tools, the thieves also damaged the trailer door, which will cost around $1,200 to replace, according to a post on the organization's website. Habitat for Humanity called the theft a "sad commentary on the hard times that people are going through." The organization still hopes to complete the home before Christmas and is seeking donations to replace the stolen tools. A complete list of what was stolen can be found here and those interested can donate to the nonprofit. Like what you're reading? "Your support after our finishing trailer break-in has been truly amazing and we can't thank you enough," the organization wrote in another Facebook post. "Your offers of tool loans, volunteering and financial support has warmed our hearts and emphasized just how wonderful this community is! Rest assured we are going to do everything in our power to finish the 6th St. Ct E. house!"
