The Municipality of Anchorage is looking for energetic individuals’ who would enjoy working on our tree crew. Our crews will be cutting beetle kill spruce trees in many Anchorage parks this summer. This is a great job for individuals who enjoy working outside, running chainsaws, operating wood chippers and other equipment. It's a great team environment working in four to five person groups. When you work a 4x10's schedule every weekend is a three day weekend!
HOURS OF WORK: Four days a week, 10 hours a day - Monday through Thursday; 6:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Able to communicate and interact with others; involves bending, twisting, kneeling, repetitive motion of hands and fingers; grasping/gripping with hands; able to lift/carry more than 50 lbs; use of hazardous/dangerous equipment and/or machinery; and work in/expose to inclement weather
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage Park land and facilities in a case and usable condition for the general public to enjoy. The park caretaker I position is the first level classification in the park maintenance series. Perform routine park maintenance under general supervision. Focus on tree work: Cutting down of designated trees. Limbing and bucking of felled trees. Chipping and hauling tree debris to wood chipper by hand. Safely operating a wood chipper to chip tree debris. Trimming away of undesired portions of trees using industry standard practices. Planting of new trees by hand using basic hand tools such as shovels. Basic maintenance of chainsaws, chippers, and other tree work related tools. Helping work with the public at invasive removal volunteer events. Perform other related duties as assigned.
