WAKEFIELD, MA — This ain't just a race. For some, it's a personal triumph, a culmination of a turning point in their lives. Others run in memory of a loved one whose life was robbed by cancer, Alzheimer's, ALS or another deadly disease. And some are professional runners who are in it to win it. Whatever the reason, it's a big deal to get there, and an even bigger deal to finish the Boston Marathon, which covers 26.2 miles from the Hopkinton starting line through the Boston route.
