Description
I am looking for a couple of likeminded musicians to form a new grass/acoustic jam band. I play mandolin and acoustic guitar, but I am mostly a mandolinist, and that is where I feel most comfortable. I have experience playing mandolin and guitar in bluegrass bands, and I have played mandolin in a jam band trio. I am looking for an acoustic guitarist, a bassist (bass guitar or upright) and vocals, but I would certainly be open to an additional acoustic instrument like a banjo, dobro or fiddle, although there are advantages to a trio (each additional musician makes scheduling exponentially harder and increases the band’s performing footprint).
I have extremely varied musical tastes, but I am mostly into bluegrass, new grass, and jam bands. My main mandolin influences are Ronnie McCoury of the Travelin’ McCoury’s, Jeff Austin of YMSB and the Jeff Austin Band, Jake Jolliff of Joy Kills Sorrow and YMSB, plus Bill Monroe, David Grisman, Sam Bush, and of course, Chris Thile. I also enjoy and draw inspiration from rock (especially the Grateful Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic and early String Cheese Incident) and jazz (specifically swing and jazz manouche/gypsy jazz). I really want to play in a band that fuses all of these influences into something coherent that makes an audience want to get up and move.
I have a relatively flexible schedule, so if this sounds like something you want to be a part of, let me know and we can find a time to jam and see where it goes.
