Description
WAKEFIELD, MA — Six students in the Wakefield Public Schools have tested positive for COVID-19 this month, according to a new data dashboard released by the town on Tuesday. One student tested positive for the virus in September.
The data includes remote-only and hybrid students who have tested positive with a PCR test. So far, there have been no cases among WPS staff.
The state labeled Wakefield a high-risk community for infection in its last two weekly updates, which officials attributed to a cluster of cases at one location about two weeks ago. There are currently 37 active cases of the coronavirus in Wakefield, according to the dashboard.
The town's percent positivity rate – 2.59 percent – is on the higher end of communities in the area. Saugus is the only nearby town with a higher positivity rate at 2.93 percent.
