Press release from the Town of Wakefield: October 9, 2020 To members and retirees of the Wakefield Contributory Retirement System: Notice of Election Election Date/Counting of Ballots: January 14, 2021 Purpose To elect the Second Member of the Wakefield Retirement Board in accordance with the provisions of the M.G.L. Chapter 32, 840 CMR 7.00. Term of Office Effective: January 16, 2021 – January 15, 2024 Candidates Members in service and retirees of the Wakefield Contributory Retirement System. Members inactive have the right to vote in board elections but do not have the right to serve as a board member. Nomination Papers Any member or retiree of the Wakefield Contributory Retirement System may qualify as a candidate by filing with the Wakefield Retirement Board Office a nomination paper or papers containing the signatures and addresses of at least twenty (20) members or retirees of the Wakefield Contributory Retirement System. Nomination papers may be obtained one of three (3) ways: 1. Pick-up with the greeter (located at the front door of Town Hall) during normal business hours: Mondays-Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.; Thursdays 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.; 2. By email: [email protected]; 3. By phone: 781-246-6352 – leave your name and address and one will be mailed via US postal service. The last day to submit nomination papers is November 24, 2020. Ballots The election will be held by mail. If only one nominee is certified as eligible, that nominee will be declared the winner. If more than one candidate is nominated, mail-in ballots will be mailed to all those eligible to vote. Ballots must be returned and postmarked no later than January 8, 2021. Election Results Results of the election will be posted to www.wakefield.ma.us/retirement-board.
