WAKEFIELD, MA — A Norwood man has been arrested in connection with a September shooting in Wakefield, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. Shemar Nelms, 18, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of a large capacity firearm. Nelms was arrested Tuesday night at his mother's home. He will be arraigned Wednesday in Malden District Court. Police were called to the Everly Apartments parking garage around 3:40 a.m. Sept. 22 for a person with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was in the driver's seat of a Honda CRV with a gunshot wound to her neck, the DA's office said. Investigators believe Nelms shot the woman before fleeing the scene. She remains hospitalized at a rehabilitation center, the DA said. Two teenage boys, a 17-year-old from Wakefield and a 16-year-old from Lynn, have also been charged in the shooting. They were arraigned Sept. 24.
