Description
A gathering of leading figures from the legal, judicial, political, academic and media worlds. What happens when politicians seek to undermine the authority or override the decisions of courts? Or when they expect judges to place their loyalty to a person or party above the law? What has happened throughout history is democracy dies. As many of the classic symptoms of a democracy in peril continue to emerge, we ask what we can do to protect our democracy. Join us May 26, 2022, in Chicago for “Democracy’s Last Line of Defense: A Symposium on Why and How to Preserve the Rule of Law and An Independent, Impartial Judiciary.” The symposium, featuring leading figures from the legal, judicial, political, academic and media worlds, will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Post Office, 433 W Van Buren St. The event will also include a reception the evening before at the Fairmont Millennium Park, 200 North Columbus Drive.
