Description
...if so, please read this. We're Frances8, a well-established indie/alt/folk/Americana band with several albums under our belt. If you'd like, you can learn more about us at https://www.frances8.com. We're starting to gig again after a pandemic hiatus, and we've been getting a warm reception from some of our favorite venues. We're playing this Saturday, May 7, at Hotel Utah (see flyer, above). But here's the thing: venue bookers often want us to put together a full evening of acts that are compatible with us. This upcoming show is a perfect example of that, where we invited Laura Benitez and Secret Songs onto the bill because we thought they were a good fit. So we're trying to build a community of inviteable acts. That means original music in a vein similar to ours. We’re kind of our own thing, but streaming services and radio programmers regularly play us alongside Cowboy Junkies, Lucinda Williams, Cat Power, Mazzy Star, Iron & Wine, Neko Case, and Calexico. While we have a fiddle and an upright bass, we don't play "cowpoke music"--Americana, yes. Country, not so much. Sometimes we call our style "Americana Noir". Here's what we need to say diplomatically: we're looking for bands that are ACTUAL bands, not just singer-songwriters who occasionally corral other musicians into playing with them. We understand that the pandemic has blurred a lot of lines between "occasional jams" and "music project" and "bands," but if you're at least starting to fall into the latter category and are moving towards live performances, we'd love to know if you're in sync with what we're doing. Maybe we can build an indie/alt/folk/Americana Noir community of bands. We're not placing contact info here, because you can find that through our site. Ideally, you'll come to our show at Hotel Utah this Saturday, and if you feel like there's a genuine fit you'll come up and say hello. Looking forward to meeting you, and hearing more about your band.
