WOODBRIDGE, VA — A woman was shot near the Broadstone at River Oaks Apartments on Thursday. Police said that Sanda Chukwujieze Maduakor shot the victim after he intervened in an argument. Police responded to the 3100 block of Chesapeake Drive in Dumfries around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday. When they arrived on the scene, officers found a 22-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Rescue personnel responded to the scene and took the victim to a nearby hospital, police said. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening. Through their investigation, officers determined that the victim was in an argument with another woman at the apartment complex. A man, who police later identifed as Maduakor, intervened, according to the police report. Authorities identified the three as "acquaintances." During the encounter, Maduakor pulled out a gun and fired a shot, police said. The round struck the victim's vehicle, which was occupied by two other women. Neither of the women in the vehicle were harmed, authorities said. The victim then pulled a baseball bat out of the vehicle's trunk. A "physical altercation" ensued, police said. During the scuffle, Maduakor fired more gunshots, which struck the victim, according to the police report. Maduakor got into a vehicle with a female acquaintance and tried to drive away, police said. Officers on the scene stopped the vehicle and took Maduakor into custody. Maduakor faces charges of aggravated malicious wounding and shooting into an occupied vehicle. His court date is pending and he is being held without bond.
