LEVITTOWN, NY — A public basketball court in Levittown just got a makeover. The Azalea Road Basketball Court, located right next to Azalea Road Pool in Levittown, was repaved and restored, officials announced this week. The court was relined with bright colors and new rims and nets were installed. Two benches were also added for spectators. Repaving work was performed in-house by town workers and at no added cost to taxpayers. Home to frequent pick-up games for residents throughout the community prior to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the court was refurbished after several young athletes who used the court daily reached out to the Town of Hempstead to share their thoughts on how to improve the park. After the court received its recent improvements, Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin, Councilman Dennis Dunne Sr. and Town Clerk Kate Murray invited the residents to check out the park. Full pickup games, such as those seen on the court prior to the virus outbreak, have not been deemed safe, yet. "As a Levittown native, it's great to see improvements being made at our cherished Azalea Road Basketball Court," Murray said. "Remember to be safe while enjoying Hempstead Town's beautiful outdoor recreation facilities and to continue adhering to the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines."
