Press release from the City of San Antonio: Thursday, April 28, 2022 CONTACT: Ximena Copa-Wiggins, (210)207-0221 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (April 29, 2022) – Volunteers from across the city will meet on Saturday, April 30, to make some exterior repairs and paint the historic home at 830 N. Dawson St, located in the Dignowity Hill Historic District. Led by the City of San Antonio's Office of Historic Preservation (OHP), the workday is a joint effort of OHP's Rehabber Club and Students Together Achieving Revitalization (S.T.A.R.) Project with support from the Power of Preservation Foundation. Work is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. "Events like this are important to show what is possible when the community rallies together around our neighbors," says Shanon Miller, OHP Director. "By repairing the exterior and addressing water infiltration issues today, we can extend the useful life of this home which is currently supporting multiple generations." Volunteers will get hands-on experience working alongside Rehabber Club contractors and historic preservation professionals. Work performed will include new foundation skirting, window screens, porch columns, trim repairs, and exterior paint. The services are provided at no cost the homeowner. The house is estimated to have been constructed circa 1895 and is an example of the Folk Victorian architectural style, commonly found in San Antonio's oldest neighborhoods. The current owner has lived in the home since 1955. Participants ages 16 and up are encouraged to volunteer at SASpeakUp.com. This press release was produced by the City of San Antonio.
