Description

Job Description: Cook·ie·is·ta /ˈko͝okē ēstə/ noun: cookieista; plural noun: cookieistas 1. someone who is very enthusiastic about cookies. The focus of this role is to provide fun, engaging, authentic service while assisting customers in their selection & purchase of freshly baked artisanal drop cookies. Based in a commercial kitchen in Long Beach, you will work independently, with the owner and/or with other team members to operate cookie pop-up & bake custom cookie orders at party booths at a variety of venues, primarily on weekends. Company Description: The mission of Baker’s Dozen Cookies is to become the first premium cookie brand to offer customers the opportunity to customize their own batch by choosing the dough & mix-ins. We also make a limited & dynamic menu of unique house flavors that we refer to as “artisanal cookies with attitude”. Baker’s Dozen (B13, for short) is committed to making each customer their next favorite cookie, whether it’s our recipe or theirs. We pride ourselves on our adult, humorous edge while ensuring a welcoming & fun experience for the whole family. Where else can you get a peanut butter cookie made with dough that’s rested two days before being hand-blended with premium chocolate morsels, dark chocolate peanut butter cups & topped with flaked sea salt? And it's called Peaz Nutz!? (If you don’t get the reference, you can probably stop reading here.) B13 is a woman-owned company that’s grown from a cottage food operation to a commercial one. Hiring the right person(s) at this early stage is particularly critical because, ideally, they would become part of the foundational team that helps lead, support & build the company ahead of the rapid growth that is anticipated. Qualifications, Skills & Responsibilities: You’re outgoing & comfortable engaging potential & repeat customers with humor, kindness & authenticity. There’s a willingness to laugh at yourself & a desire to have a positive impact on others through your interactions & personal connections. You follow procedures, while always thinking of ways to improve them. At the same time, you assert leadership when needed, making decisions on the fly to resolve issues & deliver the best service. You consider yourself a bit of a foodie who appreciates complementary flavors, textures & balance in whatever you eat. You have a sweet tooth! (Ideally for cookies, of course, but any consistent craving for cake, brownies, donuts or ice cream, etc. will do. 😊) You’re fluent in English, have a valid driver’s license & a reliable vehicle to transport yourself & all supplies to & from the kitchen needed to host a small pop-up individually (cookies, folding table, signage & display items, hand truck/wagon, etc.). You have a valid ServSafe California Food Handlers Certificate & take pride in keeping a clean, tidy workspace. Benefits: Fun, dynamic work environment where your contributions & ideas are valued. Opportunities for more hours/full-time employment & position advancement as the company grows. Job Type: Part-time Pay: $25.00/hour, plus tips Physical Setting: Onsite pop-ups (sidewalk, in-store, etc.), farmers & makers markets, residential party & commercial event locations; commercial kitchen. Must be able to stand for long periods & independently transport, setup & teardown a 30-pound pop-up canopy tent (in wheeled case). Might work individually and/or as part of a team, depending on the event. Schedule: Weekend days and/or evenings at pop-ups & organized events, such as weddings, birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, etc., depending on schedule & availability.
