Description
SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott residents have two new places to dispose of their food and organic waste in a way that reduces trash volume in the town.
Swampscott has contracted with Black Earth Compost to provide two drop-off locations as part of the town's Waste Reduction Program. Bins are available by the dog park near the cemetery and by the police station.
Residents must pre-register to obtain the code to the locked bins. Registration can be done here. The registration process involves answering questions about what is and what is not eligible or composting.
Only Swampscott residents are allowed to use the bins, compost must be disposed of in paper bags or certified composting bags and yard waste should not be included. Swampscott has a separate yard waste collection.
The bins will be monitored and those using them are advised not to leave any household trash at the sites.
