Swampscott Awarded $150K In State Grant

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott was awarded a $150,000 state grant to help convert a stretch of railroad corridor into a park that will link to other existing trails. The grant is part of the $10 million Shared Streets and Places Program designed to help create outdoor business opportunities for businesses amid coronavirus health crisis indoor space restrictions as well as sustainable safe walking and biking areas for cities and towns. The Swampscott grant will help the town link the park to the Marblehead and Salem Trail and the Northern Strand. Gov. Charlie Baker announced last week the funding amount was doubled from $5 million to $10 million to help more cities, towns and businesses. The Swampscott award was part of $3.9 million awarded in the recent round of grants. "The Shared Streets and Spaces Emergency Grant Program has helped communities recover economically," Gov. Charlie Baker said at a news conference last week, "and we are pleased that these grants can support businesses and invest in ways to create more space and follow safety guidance during the pandemic."
