SWAMPSCOTT, MA — The Swampscott Public Library and Swampscott Unites Respects & Embraces Diversity is presenting the "One Topic One Town: A Journey Towards Dismantling Racism" book series. The series will offer a set of book recommendations, along with programs around the books, including discussions, lectures, movies, history podcasts and presentations. "Racism is a problem in our country, and no city or town is exempt from it," the Swampscott Public Library announced. "Our goal is not only to raise awareness about systemic racism in our society, but to take a look at ourselves, at our history and to elevate the voices of our brothers and sisters of color." The book series includes readings for age ranges from child to adult. "Hopefully in the process we will learn about ourselves and how to be allies to not only the black and brown people in our community, but beyond as well," the Swampscott Public Library said. Books ready for checkout are: "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson, "How to be an Antiracist" by Ibram X. Kendi, "Underground Railroad" by Colson Whitehead, "Homegoing" by Yaa Gyasi and "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" by Mildred D. Taylor.
