Rehoming Catahoula Leopard Mix 2yrs

Description

Rehoming my dog Oliver. I adopted him at 8 months from a shelter, so I don't know his early history. Apparently he's a Catahoula mix, but who knows. What he needs: House with no other pets, although may do OK with another large breed dog. He's lived with one before and boundaries would need to be set; otherwise fights will happen. Fenced back yard or similar. Pros: Physically healthy. Very sweet to humans he trusts - never shown any aggression towards me or my housemates. Independent - zero separation anxiety issues. Very smart, and well trained besides behavior issues (see below). E-collar trained, knows basic commands (sit, down, spin, wait, paw, come) + heels on walks. Great in the car, crate trained. Never needs baths - his fur is very short and just doesn't hold onto dirt or stink. Cons: Aggressive towards other dogs, cats, small animals. Went through several thousand dollars in behavior modification training (hence the e-collar), still hates most other animals. It doesn't seem fear or trauma-based - I think it is just a personality trait. Not a dog park dog, not a restaurant dog, not a dog you can take to friends houses who has pets, etc. This is my main reason for trying to rehome him; I just want a dog where I don't constantly worry about them hurting other animals. I love to hike and I can't even do that anymore with him because passing other dogs on narrow trails is nearly impossible without him lunging. Neutral: Loves to hunt and he's fast. Very good home protector. If you're the type of person who wants a relatively low-maintenance dog to protect your property, he's your guy. Does just fine if I leave him 8-9 hours while I'm at work. I exercise him morning and evening (walks, fetch), but he's perfectly happy just napping during the day. Obviously, Oliver is not an easy dog. I'm not really expecting much interest, just thought I'd try. I know if I give him to a shelter he'll likely be euthanized because of aggression, so just trying to avoid that if possible. There are so many great dogs in need of homes out there, I know. I'd love an open-adoption type situation where I can get periodic updates on him. If you go out of town and I'm available, I'd love to provide free boarding for him too. No adoption fee - Just looking for a loving home that better fits his needs. If I find a good situation for him, he comes with all of his accessories too (e-collar, crate, etc). I'm willing to drive to you for an in-home meet and greet, within a 2- hour radius of Seattle.
