Description
Tom Porter and Friends have been playing music together for nearly fifteen years. Brunswick-based jazz pianist Tom has been performing since the age of fourteen, both in the US and in his native Britain, where he picked up a couple of national awards. While based in the UK Tom worked with some of the top names in jazz from both sides of the Atlantic. Tom has also been a journalist - you may remember him as one of the voices of Maine Public Radio. He now works in public affairs for Bowdoin College. Bassist, composer and guitarist Sam Sherry has played concerts on both coasts and in eight countries. Sherry has performed with dozens of jazz stars and notables, working across all genres from swing to standard jazz to free improvisation. Sam has written and produced three acclaimed albums. In his spare time, Sam is an attorney specializing in commercial law. Saxophone player Frank Mauceri is a musical educator, improviser, composer and teacher. He is currently senior lecturer in music at Bowdoin College. His compositions include chamber music, electro-acoustic music, multi-media works, and jazz arrangements. He and bass player Sam Sherry compose many of the tunes performed by ‘Tom Porter and Friends.' Maine native Michael Boucher settled in Freeport in 1989, having previously lived in Portland, Boston and Seattle. A successful landscape architect, he has also enjoyed success playing drums in various jazz and R&B ensembles since high school, including the Mainestream Jazzmasters. “Mickey the Butcher” has been playing with Tom Porter and his “friends” for almost five years.
