GEORGETOWN, D.C. — Almost a dozen movies have had scenes filmed in Georgetown from The Exorcist to St. Elmo's Fire. Residents are able to pop by and check out each one courtesy of the Georgetown Business Improvement District's Hollywood on the Potomac movie guide. Here are some of the hot spots to check out. The Exorcist Stairs, 3600 Prospect Street NW This flight of 75 steps was designated a Historic Landmark in 2019 and is denoted with a commemorative plaque. It can be seen in the iconic scene at the end of the movie. The Exorcist House, 3600 Prospect Street NW Owned by Georgetown University, this house was used for exterior scenes in The Exorcist. The Tombs, 1226 36th Street NW The pub in St. Elmo's Fire is modeled after this hangout. It also was filmed in The Exorcist. 3343 P Street NW In The American President, this house was used as the residence of Sydney Ellen Wade played by Annette Benning. 3410 P Street NW This house can be spied in the movie Chances Are starring Robert Downey, Jr. The Shops at Georgetown Park, 3222 M Street NW Snippets of True Lies featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger was filmed in this area along with No Way Out with Kevin Costner. 29th & O Streets NW Will Smith's character, lawyer Robert Dean lived here in the movie Enemy of the State. 1503 35th St NW A Supreme Court justice is assassinated in this house in the movie Pelican Brief starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.
