Pop-Up DC Drive-In Movie Theater Kicks Off With Sept. 25 Showtime

GEORGETOWN, D.C. — Buzzard Point will be buzzing with movie lovers once the new drive-in movie theater opens there. During the coronavirus pandemic, pop-up drive-in movie theaters began cropping up across the country. The Capitol Riverfront Drive-In Movie Series, hosted by the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood business improvement district, will show a movie every Friday between Sept. 25 and Oct. 30. There will be space for 75 cars per movie. The first half of the series will feature popular films. In celebration of Halloween season, the second half of the series will include a festive lineup of spooktacular flicks. Organizers ask moviegoers to vote on the grand finale film from among the following Halloween favorites: Beetlejuice (PG), The Corpse Bride (PG), The Addams Family (PG-13) and Poltergeist (PG). Voting begins on @CapitolRiverfront's Instagram Sept. 1. The BID suggests a $20 "donation" to hold a spot, with the funds going to the Capital Area Food Bank, D.C. Central Kitchen and Van Ness Elementary School. There will not be vending onsite due to safety concerns due to coronavirus, but moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own food. Alcohol is prohibited.
