Annual Diversity In Aquatics Water Safety Festival Promoting Water Safety in Honor of Legendary Coach Johnnie Means On Sunday, May 15th, International Water Safety Day, a number of aquatic organizations will host a Water Safety Festival at Texas Southern University. This FREE event will start at 10:30 am for participants. During the event, all ages of participants will learn about water safety and gain knowledge about various opportunities in aquatics while celebrating the accomplishments of Houston area aquatics programming under Coach Johnnie Means. Through a collaborative network of aquatic agencies, we are supplying gear, give-a-ways, and more than $5,000 of financial support for aquatic programming through learn to swim scholarships, certifications, and more at Texas Southern University, a Historical Black College, and University (HBCU). Come one or come all to be a part of this amazing event. This event will provide a collective experience for educating, promoting, and supporting aquatics. The event will be held at: TSU Recreation Center, 3100 Cleburne St. Houston, TX 77004There will be both out-of-water and in-water activities. The morning starts with a program with speakers from the TSU Swim Team and our community. Program for the Water Safety Event 10:30 am - 10:40am: Participant Arrival & Networking10:40 am - 10:50 am: Speakers and Community Engagement11:00 am - 1:00 pm: Water Safety Event with Free swim & free lessons for the community1:15 closing and thank you The goal of the event is to provide a positive environment for all to build a relationship with the water and its benefits through mindfulness, water, and community. This FREE event will provide opportunities for the community to heal, to share the rich history of Black people in aquatics, and address water safety and the aquatic needs of the community. Covid Participation Guidelines Diversity In Aquatics will adhere to practicing safe and healthy events. Please make sure to stay home if you have tested positive for COVID-19, are waiting for COVID-19 test results, have COVID-19 symptoms, or if you have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19
