Told through the lens of Indigenous filmmakers, The Territory invites the viewer into the heart of the ever present conflict between conservation and profit. How far can one village go to keep their traditional land and culture safe from the blind destruction of greed? His process relies on a participatory filmmaking model, in which everyone is encouraged to pick up a camera. The Territory is his first feature film which debuted at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival taking home the Audience Award for best Documentary. Short Film: LISTEN TO THE BEAT OF OUR IMAGES (dir. Audrey Jean-Baptiste, Maxime Jean-Baptiste) Runtime: 15min Year: 2021 Sixty years ago the French government decided to establish its space center in Kourou, French Guiana. 600 guyanese people were expropriated to allow France to realize its dream of space conquest. Combining field investigation and video-editing processes on archives, Listen To the Beat of our Images gives a voice to a silenced population. She works between France and French Guiana. Her films address issues of race, gender and sexuality. Her first documentary Fabulous (2019) has been selected in about sixty international festivals. Maxime Jean-Baptiste is a filmmaker based between Brussels and Paris. His audiovisual and performative work lies between documentary film and contemporary art. Nou voix (2018), his autobiographical video work, received the jury prize at the Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris. https://www.earthxfilmfestival.org
