Now, to save her home from extreme weather, she faces her greatest challenge: persuading Americans that climate change is real. Traveling from Malawi to the White House, she meets climate skeptics and despairing farmers. Anita’s journey highlights the power of conversation and compassion in the mission to protect Mother Earth in The Ants and the Grasshopper. Runtime: 74mins Year: 2021 Screening Times: Fri, May 13 - 1:00pm at Hamon Hall Sun, May 15 - 4:45pm at Studio Theater Meet the Directors: Raj Patel (co-director/producer) is a James Beard Award winning activist and New York Times bestselling writer. Patel is currently a research professor at the Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin. Zak Piper (co-director/producer) is an Emmy-winning and Producers Guild Award-winning documentary filmmaker most known for producing the critically acclaimed film Life Itself, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival (2014) and later won a Critics Choice Award. Piper is currently producing or directing a number of documentary projects in development or production. Short Film: RAISED FROM EARTH (dir. Forest Woodward) Runtime: 9min Year: 2021 Under Arizona’s cinnamon-hued Canelo Hills, a mother shares ancient building traditions with her three sons. In Puebloan creation stories, adobe structures (like people) emerge from the earth and return to the earth. For Athena Steen, it’s the family memories, skills, knowledge, love, laughter and the clay itself that endure. Screening Times: Thurs, May 12 - 4:15pm at Hamon Hall Sat, May 15 - 4:45pm at Studio Theater Meet the Director: Forest Woodward works with both stills and motion. In his work, Woodward honors the tradition of the concerned photographer while seeking to more deeply explore the visceral and emotional connections between humans and their rapidly shifting relationship to the natural world. https://www.earthxfilmfestival.org
