Steamer Lane Design is hiring a part time production assistant to work in laser engraving, product assembly, and shipping. We are located on the westside of Santa Cruz and make laser engraved wood magnets, keychains, ornaments and pins for National Parks and gift shops around the country. Shifts are 8 hours long, 2-3 days per week. Starting pay is $18+/hour, depending on skills and experience. We are a growing company and there is opportunity for this position to become full time. A typical day includes: Polishing wood engravings. Attaching split rings to keychains. Gluing magnets to wood pieces. Assembling pins. Tying ribbons and assembling ornaments. Organizing a daily production schedule. Operating laser engravers (training will be provided, no experience necessary). Packing and shipping orders. Product assembly can be repetitive and requires finger dexterity and an eye for detail. You will get glue on your hands. You must be able to lift 25 pounds. There is a strong focus on quality control, and you must be able to pay close attention to the details of repetitive tasks for long stretches. The ideal candidate will be comfortable using a computer and learning new programs. Experience with graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Coreldraw, etc.) is a plus but not a requirement. Are you a talented graphic designer? Show me your artwork!
