Behold the Beauty Guided Hike - Lichens!Shelly Benson will be leading this hike through the coastal grasslands while discovering the variety of lichens found at Jenner Headlands Preserve.
Lichens are often overlooked organisms in our environment, yet they serve ecologically significant functions. Come learn about the ways lichens help create soil, increase the biodiversity of their surroundings, and can help increase the water availability in their habitat.
Participants can expect to hike approximately 4 miles. This moderate hike will begin at the Gateway to the Jenner Headlands parking lot on Highway 1, just 1.5 miles north of Jenner. Please come 15 minutes early to sign the liability waiver, get acquainted, and use the facilities if needed.
Shelly recommends bringing a hand lens if you have one - or turning your binoculars around can work as well.
