Vena Crichlow understands the healing power of nature. At the age of 20, Vena’s younger sister was brutally murdered. This tragic event led her to discover gardening as a tool to help her on her journey towards wellness. For over two decades, Vena has used gardening as a way to assist her in healing from the anxiety and depression she experienced as a result of her sister’s death. Vena comes from a long history of farmers and grew up in a home where both of her parents had green thumbs and where her father grew tomatoes on their patio in Brooklyn, New York. After nurturing a multitude of houseplants indoors, she began growing fruits and vegetables outdoors. She has shared her message of healing through gardening on a TEDx stage and has been dubbed “The Plant Genie” for the valuable and practical information she shares with others about caring for their indoor and outdoor plants. Vena is also the author of Grow Your Garden, a series of seasonal journals which will cause you to reflect on the beauty in nature as you and your indoor or outdoor plants grow during each of the four seasons of the year. Vena enjoys assisting others who are starting indoor and outdoor garden spaces. Her work focuses on encouraging people to “play in the dirt” and to use gardening as a way to reconnect with nature, to find solace and to help them heal through the pain of grief and loss. Vena enjoys traveling, interior design projects and creating beaded jewelry using healing crystals. She resides in the metro-Atlanta area. Her desire is to encourage people to find rejuvenation through connecting to our eldest ancestor, Mother Earth.
